About
Clinical Expertise. Practical Guidance.
Flowers Consulting was founded on a simple premise: hospital pharmacy teams deserve access to the same depth of pharmacokinetic and stewardship expertise that academic medical centers take for granted.
Dr. Sarah Flowers, PharmD, BCIDP, BCPS
Founder & Principal Consultant
Dr. Sarah Flowers is a board-certified infectious diseases pharmacist with over 15 years of clinical experience spanning academic medical centers, community hospitals, and regional health systems. She has led antimicrobial stewardship programs, designed pharmacokinetic dosing services, and trained hundreds of pharmacy residents and students across the Mountain West.
Her clinical career began in the medical ICU at a 600-bed academic center, where she developed a deep appreciation for the pharmacokinetic complexity of critically ill patients. That experience — watching standard dosing fail patients with augmented renal clearance, or seeing broad-spectrum antibiotics continue for weeks without a de-escalation trigger — shaped the consulting philosophy she brings to every engagement.
After a decade of direct patient care, Dr. Flowers transitioned to a system-level role, building and scaling antimicrobial stewardship infrastructure across a 12-hospital regional network. She led the implementation of AUC-guided vancomycin monitoring, pharmacist-led rapid diagnostic stewardship, and a prospective audit and feedback program that reduced broad-spectrum antibiotic use by 28% over three years.
Flowers Consulting was founded to bring that same rigor to institutions that lack the internal resources to build it themselves. Every engagement is led personally by Dr. Flowers — no junior consultants, no templated deliverables. Just deep clinical expertise applied directly to your institution's specific challenges.

A Consulting Philosophy Built on Clinical Honesty
Good stewardship is not about reducing antibiotic use for its own sake. It is about ensuring every patient receives the right drug, at the right dose, for the right duration — and that the infrastructure exists to make that happen consistently, not just when the right pharmacist happens to be on shift.
That means being willing to tell a client when their current approach is working, and when it is not. It means building programs that survive staff turnover and leadership changes. And it means measuring outcomes that matter — mortality, readmission, resistance rates — not just days of therapy per 1,000 patient days.
